Commanding a hilltop location with Hudson views, this house is set on bedrock. The steeply sloping, rocky site began as a challenge, but in the end led to creating a unique experience, with a house massing that will crown the existing rock ledges. An approach that rises to either a formal motor court or a Palladian portico. From the portico, another flight of stairs rises up in the foyer to the formal living room and stair hall. Multiple porches face out over views. Different sides of the lots have unique characters, such as: the sunken pool patio with views; the private shade garden nestled amid rocky projections; and the long lawn in the rear. The house massing is based on late Renaissance French chateaux, with an American classical language. Construction is close to completion.
